The One-Hour Run:  12 January 2008, Key West, Florida

On a hot and sunny morning, two dozen runners toed the line for the 2nd Annual One Hour Run.  Proceeds for the event go to the KWHS Track & Field program.

Marathon's Martin Sykut set a powerful early pace, as is his wont, but by the mile point, Miami's Jon Williams reeled him in and took the lead for good.  Jon defended his title and Martin retained his Masters crown, duplicating last year's 1-2 finish.  While Jon fell short of the event record from '07 (15624 meters), Martin ran 5 meters further than last year.

The women's race was a true dandy.  Abigail White and Rachel Baillargeon ran in close proximity the whole way, with Abigail launching a big sprint with a minute and a half remaining to take the victory by just 45 meters.  This, of course, was not as close as last year's Bertolini-Whiteside duel that ended just 1 meter apart.  Lilla won the Masters division this year.

The Welzien sisters, Priscilla and Julianne, ran shoulder-to-shoulder for 59 minutes before the younger sibling found one more gear on the final lap and forged ahead to win by 29 meters.

Younger brother, Barefoot Billy, 11, placed 6th overall to win the Male student division, and did a cartwheel most laps as he passed the clock.

Many, many thanks to all the volunteers who came out and counted laps for the runners!
