STUART - Ryan Kelly of
Vero
Beach cruised to
victory in the third annual Halaptiokee Park 5K Run held Sunday morning at
Halpatiokee Park as he covered the 3.1-mile looping course in 16 minutes,
52 seconds.
Miami ’s Jon Williams finished
second in 17:49 , and Cory Wheeler of
Palm City was third in 18:42. Edward Bates, 51, of
Fort
Pierce finished
fifth in 18:52 to
claim the Masters (age 40 and over) title.
In the women’s race, Brenda Wilson of Stuart won the
Overall title in 20:30, Jensen Beach’s Rita Young was second in 21:52, and Kathrerine Gilling of West
Chester, Pennsylvania finished third in 23:31. Young, 43, won the Masters title for her
efforts.
A total of 48 runners completed
the event, which was sponsored by the Martin County Parks and Recreation Department and hosted by the Sailfish
Striders Running Club of Stuart.
